Sometimes we just need to stop what we are doing and join in. The gentlemen that was cleaning the windows was happy to see the kids help out on our side and gave them a big thumbs up! I'm tagging this post under 'special guests' because, well he became our special guest today ;)

In our communities, who is responsible for caring for animals?! We all had a very clear understanding of care for the common pet but did not know as much about the care that other animals receive and how, in particular, wild animals! Dr. Arora shared a lot of information with us today, we learned that veterinarians perform many of the same procedures and use many of the same tools as our family doctors. We also got to see some neat x-ray pictures and listened very carefully to two heartbeats noting that one was normal and one was not. Many of us have pets at home so we are very thankful to what veterinarians do for us and the community!
We had a great presentation this morning about fire safety and learned a little bit about how Officer Pazdzior and other firefighters are vital members of a community. Some of us knew lots about fire safety, which Officer Pazdzior was very impressed with. We practiced crawling under 'smoke' and the proper stop, drop and roll technique. At the end, we each got a little bag with some special goodies! Thanks to Officer Pazdzior for the great presentation!
The University of Ottawa's Maker Mobile workshops were one of the best workshops I have experienced in my time working with kids! Their staff were so great with the young children; friendly and knew how to engage young kids! The kindergarten class has now had a great intro to programming using the application called Scratch Jr. The grade 1/2 class are already quite proficient so they got some extra tips and practice and created some creative programs that they shared towards the end of the workshop. I will certainly be looking into more of their workshops for later this year! Enjoy the video!
A great morning spent with Marie-Hélène of Scientists in Schools. After a short introduction, the students separated into groups and explored each station. A big thank you to the grade 8 students for helping out and being responsible for the stations!
Yesterday, in celebration of Diwali Festival of Lights, we had the privilege of having two professional Bollywood dancers present a traditional dance and then teach us some dance moves as well. We learnt the choreography and then presented it to the rest of the school! It was super fun but the students sure did realize how dancing was also a form of exercise, they were pretty tired by the end of it! Thanks to Mme Neena f |
